Billa review in Kollywoodtoday

Producer : Ananda Pictures
Director : Vishnu Vardhan
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja

Winners don't do different things, but do things differently and does Billa approve of this? Of course Billa isn't just a remake, but a trendsetter in the history of Tamil Cinema. Kollywoodtoday.com has got some good reasons to say in what way Billa differs from other ordinary movies that generally aim at collections and not in taking elevating the standard of Tamil cinema.

As of Direction, Vishnuvardhan wins following the trend of `Pick the best and swipe with best'. Indeed he has added more life to the olden version and transformed into almost as a Hollywood flick. Yup! the scenic beauty framed and decorous screenplay carry audiences without their attention getting scattered.
Ultimate Star Ajith Kumar does it all again after Varalaru: he has risen again to the greater heights after many failures with his previous ventures. Stylistically appearing with glossy looks, he looks more perfect donning the role of a mafia don. Hats off to Ajith for rendering an excellent performance and to Vishnuvardhan for breaking the normally presented Tamil flicks.

Very beginning of the movie itself reveals that this is gonna be a different stroke that is sure to bash up with different strokes. As of all, everyone must be quite well-known with the tale of Billa for already there have been three versions with Don starring Amitabh Bacchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Rajnikanth.
Fine! There isn't anything faulty in iterating the story again.

The film set in the backdrops of Malaysia is about David Billa (Ajith Kumar) who deeply leaves the entire network of Interpol Department insomniac with his atrocious activities. In fact he is a great rationalist who feels with his mind and thinks with his heart, simply saying, a man who follows his consciousness. With no tracks left behind him, its DSP Jayaprakash (Prabhu) has couple of police informers along with Billa, who keep informing his whereabouts. Eventually, remaining as a Don he gets their lives evacuated and now Jayaprakash has a secret revealed that there is an informer in Interpol Department who keeps Billa updated with their proceedings and he is Jagdish.

Fine and final, there comes a day when Billa falls prey to Jayaprakash and he is killed. But it's only Jai who knows that he is dead and for rest he has eloped from the cops' clutches. Here enters special investigative officer Gokulnath (Rahman) who joins hands with Jai for the hunt of Billa unknowing that he is already dead.

Sooner or later after this incident, Jai without knowledge of anyone seeks the help of Velu (played by Ajith himself). Who is Velu? An ordinary youngster in Malaysia who leads unsatisfactory life. But the most surprising thing is that his looks are more identical to that of Billa. Gearing up to trap the entire network of mafia including the unknown informer Jagdish, Jai urges Velu to act as Billa and get the entire group trapped…..

First unwilling Velu, later takes up the task and gets transformed as Billa. But it's not just an easy task, for Billa has opponents as his enemies but within his team Saasha (Nayanthara) who joins Billa just to kill him retaliating to her brother's death.

Velu does a decent job informing each and every morsel of news about the entire network of mafia. But it's a complicated situation for him when DSP Jayakumar is shot dead by Jagdeesh and Velu getting trapped by Interpol officer Gokulnath and his team.

How Velu jumps out of the trap and in turn set the trap for Jagdeesh is the entire remaining story about…..
Ajith Kumar has done a splendid job and he must have had Al Pacino in his mind while donning the role of a mafia don. Not alone his costumes, but his stylish looks and excellent delivery of dialogues prove of his ability of fantabulous performance. His voice modulations are of a great positive attribute falling on his part. Of course, he does the best with comedy tracks that he shares with Santhanam and Prabhu.

More equivalent to Ajith is the performance of Prabhu for he does a wonderful task with decent effort. Looks more apt with the role of cop and his body language add more colours to his role.

Yup! We can't miss the ultimate show of Nayanthara and Namitha who churn with their alluring looks and performance. Nayanthara ropes up with not just glamorous part with action based stunts too and Namitha has a matured approach of performance.

Vishnuvardhan grabs the right option of stealing western ideas and using them to polish the original script of Billa starring Rajnikanth. His command over each and every actor's performance is easily evident on the screen. His wife Anu Vardhan swings all the way designing good looking costumes for all roles.
Nirav Shah canning shots with innovative angles grabs the show with slow moving camera movements. Please take note of visualization of the song `My Name is Billa'; the wonderful shots of montages of various sequences have been canned well.

Dribbling with enchanting musical score is Yuvan Shankar Raja who strikes with wonderful music for songs and background. All the songs have been tuned well and man to be remembered beside `My name is Billa' is M S Viswanathan for the original tune of the olden tune has been added with bit of extra beats.

Overall, Billa rocks the entire Kollywood and everyone in the industry are awestruck by the breathtaking presentation of the movie. Congrats to Vishuvardhan for a stimulating flick and please do continue making films like this. As of Ajith, he is raised to the standard of an International actor and we plead him to choose good scripts that have a tailored role for him.

Verdict: Can watch as much times you want……..
